Departmental Scholarships

The Betty F. Hughes English Education Scholarship
The Hughes Scholarship awards about $1,500 to an incoming student who plans to prepare for teaching high school English. It is currently funded annually by an anonymous donor. However, an endowment is being raised, largely through the contributions of Betty Hughes and her family and by the Royal Foundation, associated with Steve Royal, one of Professor Hughes’s former students. Contributions to the endowment are welcome and may be made directly to Mars Hill College by way of Bud Christman in the Office of Institutional Advancement. Please make sure that your gift is clearly marked as a contribution to the Betty Hughes Scholarship.

The Ella J. Pierce Scholarship

To be eligible, a candidate must be a rising sophmore or junior who plans to complete his or her degree at MHC.
